Exim India’s Gujarat Junction 2017 Cargo and Logistics awards were held concurrently with Gujarat Junction CEO Round table on Feb 18, 2017 at Ganghidham. The event, attended by leaders, professionals and trade facilitators from the sector.
J M Baxi & Co won the award for the shipping agency of the year – bulk / break bulk operator and Boxco Logistics India Pvt Ltd won the award for Heavy Lift Mover of the Year. J M Baxi Group was also felicitated for its achievements and long standing services to the trade.

Speaking at the event on business opportunities in the logistics sector in the growing Indian economy at the People of Indian Origin Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PIOCCI) Conclave 2017 in conjunction with Pravasi Bhartiya Divas in Bangalore, Mr Nandan Yalgi, Managing Director of Boxco Logistics, spoke about how the Indian logistics industry is gaining traction with government initiatives like the Sagar Mala campaign, DFC, DMIC, digitalisation, implementation of GST, the Make in India campaign, the national integrated logistics policy and 100% FDI in warehouses and food storage facilities. He further elaborated on the current trends, challenges and opportunities in the sector and showcased initiatives undertaken by the government that are driving investment in the sector and enabling economic growth in the country.
The session was moderated by Mr Atul Kulkarni, advisor for the Indian Ports Association. The chief guest of the conclave was Shri R. V. Deshpande, Honourable Minister for Large and Medium-Scale Industries, Government of Karnataka.

J. M. Baxi Group was honoured to be the recipient of the IOT Re-Innovator (Internet of Things) Award at the Netmagic Connect 2016 event.
Mr Shirishchandra Shah, Vice President of MICT, and Mr Prasad Patil, Chief Technology Officer of J. M. Baxi Group, received the award on behalf of the group. The award was given for the one-of-a-kind RFID-based integrated container-tracking solution implemented at MICT, Nhava Sheva.
The Netmagic Connect event was attended by over 350 business and IT leaders, making it one of the largest gatherings of IT decision makers in the country. The Re-Innovator Awards 2016 honoured leading organisations and their IT visionaries who have gone beyond the traditional ideas to leverage IT and have re-innovated their businesses to create value. The Gujarat Star Awards was held for the fifth time at Ahmedabad. The extravagant function was graced by Shri Ravi Parmar IAS, Chairman of Kandla Port Trust, as chief guest and Shri Ajay IAS, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Gujarat Maritime Board as the guest of honour and a special guest.
A special Jury Award for completing 100 years of service in the maritime sector was given to J M BAXI GROUP.
All the panelists held fruitful discussions. The unanimous view was that there is an urgent need on the part of stakeholders to reduce transaction costs for EXIM logistics with innovative methods like digitisation and a common port community system, proactive government measures and speedy implementation of ongoing infrastructure projects.

At the 9th CII Logistics Colloquium 2016, Dhruv K. Kotak, Jt. Managing Director of J M Baxi GROUP, spoke about how trade was growing fast in the East and that both Haldia and Kolkata ports expect to see a surge in cargo handling. The attendees enjoyed being shown a pictograph of Haldia International Container Terminal that enumerated how the company had transformed a system ridden with mismanagement and middlemen, and lacking ownership, safety, security and basic amenities, like urinals, clean drinking water and canteens, into one where the management is participative, the latest equipment and tools are available, safety and security are ensured, and training and awareness programs are held.

Reiterating its commitment towards key commodities, DICT organised a trade meeting at Solitaire Inn, Muzaffarnagar, for various entities involved in the wastepaper business.
The trade meeting was well attended by wastepaper importers, indenting agents and prominent CHAs of wastepaper trade shipping companies. They appreciated the efforts of DICT in understanding the logistics requirements and its focus on eliminating all bottlenecks while transporting goods in the most optimal manner.
Mr Pankaj Aggarwal, chairman of the Paper Mill Association and who is also the mayor of Muzaffarnagar, appreciated DICT's efforts in reducing the overall logistics cost of wastepaper importers through innovative and time-bound solutions to their needs.

Visakhapatnam’s state-of-the-art container freight station was inaugurated by Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Honourable Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, in the presence of other notable dignitaries and ministers, including Shri Ganta Srinivasa Rao, HRD Minister, Shri Sidda Raghava Rao, Transport, Road and Buildings Minister, Shri K. Haribabu, MP along with other MLAs and MPs.
Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman Shri M.T. Krishna Babu, IAS, led the delegation and was ably supported by Deputy Chairman Shri P.L. Haranadh, IRTS, and other port officials. The Chief Commissioner of Customs, Shri C. Rajendiran, IRS, along with Shri Sudhakar Mishra, IRS, Additional Commissioner of Customs, also graced the occasion along with other senior officials from Customs.
The Visakha Container Terminal CFS located in the EXIM Park area of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust is a greenfield project setup in 34 acres with a capacity of 100,000 TEU per annum.

Haldia International Container Terminal (HICT) was proud to participate in events when the Nepal Freight Forwarders Association celebrated its 22nd Cargo Day on 29 July 2016 in Kathmandu.
Use of containerised volumes is growing in Nepal, and is projected to cross 60,000 TEU in 2016, so additional maritime infrastructure is needed.
HICT commenced operations last year. It has been consistently improving and has seen increases in the number of ship calls and capacity. After a rationalisation of equipment utilisation and space management, a large area has been freed up for fresh cargoes. Nepal stands to benefit due to this availability of space.
Haldia Dock Complex, under the aegis of Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT), has rationalised several costs as well as taken measures to assist trade. This facility, hence, can serve Nepal’s growing trade very effectively.

The 13th anniversary of Visakha Container Terminal in conjunction with the centenary of J M BAXI GROUP was celebrated, against a perfect platform of the terminal achieving a growth rate of 17 per cent this year.
Krishna B. Kotak, chairman of the group, espoused that: “Honesty, integrity, innovation and courage are the core values that have sustained the path of success of J M BAXI GROUP over several decades.” Vir K. Kotak, joint managing director, spoke of the present achievements of the group and outlined the growth path the group is chartering.
All the trading partners using the terminal and those using J M Baxi GROUP’s other services came together to attend the glittering ceremony. J M Baxi Group has won the special jury award for 100 years of service in the maritime sector in the India Maritime Awards, organised and managed by the Daily Shipping Times, India’s oldest shipping publication. The event was held in Mumbai. The India Maritime Awards aim to felicitate top performers by recognising excellence in the maritime and logistics industry from all over India. There were over 100 nominations in 12 categories.
The award function was held in conjunction with a panel discussion on “Redressal of all Maritime Issues via a Single Window” and was addressed by leading industry stalwarts from the maritime and logistics industry.

CTL concurrent with BHP 2016 was a two-day conference and exhibition focused on cargo, transportation and logistics industry. Boxco Logistics whilst celebrating its centenary also proudly displayed its Wall of Wonders - some of its logistical feats so far, its new ship model - Vir Varenya. It was a fruitful where many veterans from the industry exchanges ideas and got abreast with the latest trends in the sector.

Participating in the annual 20/20 rendezvous, the Nisaa cup is prestigious by itself. The tournament is aimed at strengthening the coordination between steamer agents. This year many of the leading companies participated to name some: Maersk, Hamburg Sud, NYK Group, Transworld Group, Caraval Logistics, CMA-CGM, Challenger XI-I, Challenger Warrior and Seahorse group/YML. The Baxi team was a strong one, with its dedicated members Sunil, Pawandeep, Praneet, Sunil, Suraj, Rajwinder, Gyan, Randeep, Kuldeep, Mudit , Sanjeev, Vipin, Sudhir, Alok, Shalender, and Udit. The team practiced a lot to be in the perfect form, as its challengers were no novices. Taking the cup home, was indeed a moment of pride and the team certainly won many a hearts by its by its sheer hard work.
The Association of Shipping Interests in Calcutta (ASIC), the nodal agency of various foreign and Indian shipping companies working in the eastern ports of Kolkata and Haldia, hosted an award ceremony for shipping companies and industry partners. ASIC was established in 1971 and it is an umbrella organisation for the shipping industry to consider issues of mutual interest relating to ports and customs, along with the ministries of the central government. It has a premier position in the trade as a consultative forum for the shipping and maritime issues of the region.
Senior officials of Haldia International Container Terminal, Tamal Roy (president of Corporate Strategy), Rajeev Mittal (President of ICT and IPL), Manoj Arora (head of Corporate Marketing), Sudeep Banerjee (terminal head) and Tapan Sengupta (head of Marketing), were present at the event and were felicitated by the ASIC president.

Fifteen members of J. M. Baxi Group – Abhijit Kashte, Amilesh Sawant, Amit Dhumal, ArunVapilkar, Bhagyashri Walgude, Domnic Corriea, Emmanuel Samuel, Gurudas Nagarkar, Nihar Masurekar, Nilesh Powar, S Kandasamy, Sandeep Shinde, Sandesh Salve, Sundar Pujara and Vijay Dukare – selflessly spent their Sunday volunteering to make Oscar’s Annual Football Day a huge success. In total, 1,100 children participated in the football tournament. Around 400 parents attended the event, and they were overwhelmed to see the Oscar Gallery. The parents participated in entertaining fun games as well. The highlight of the event was the parents’ football match. It was a special moment to see the children support their moms and dads playing a game of football.
Oscar’s vision is to create a world that enables youth to become role models through sport, to take active roles in various community initiatives and to mobilise other members of their community by using sport for positive social change.

The concession Agreement for the development operation and maintenance of Container Terminal at Berth Nos. 11 & 12 at Kandla Port was signed, by Kandla Port Trust & Kandla International Container Terminals Ltd. in, Gandhidham , wherein Shri. Ravi Parmar, IAS, Chairman-KPT, Shri. Alok Singh, IRS, Dy. Chairman and Krishna B Kotak, Chairman and Dhruv K Kotak, Joint MD of JM Baxi Group of Companies did the honours.
The berth will have a draft of 13 meters handling up to 65000-75000 DWT vessels. With a length of 545 metres and a handling capacity of 6 lakh TEUs per annum, the berths will be equipped with 4 rail mounted quay cranes, 8 RTG cranes, 4 reach stackers and 24 tractor trailers. The terminal will have a backup area of 18.74 hectares.
The existing railway siding No.12 will be the dedicated railway corridor to the container terminal, attracting rail-borne cargo.

A Trade Meet involving the shipping lines, agency houses, Concor, importers, exporters, Kolkata Freight Brokers Association, ASIC, Nepal Cargo handling agents association, Nepal consulate and Custom house agents was held on 7th June 2016 by Kolkata Port Trust in collaboration with Haldia International Container Terminal Pvt. Ltd. (HICT).
The meet was attended by dignitaries from the shipping fraternity and headed the Chairman of KoPT Shri M. T. Krishna Babu who insisted Nepal bound cargo, Falta SEZ cargo and cargo originating from the hinterland closer to Haldia Port should be shifted to HICT especially with efficient rail and road connectivity established.
The various stakeholders had meaningful interactions and Renuka sugars one of the largest sugar refiners, announced their plans of resuming operations of its plant at Haldia.

The genesis of the Future CEO School started with the idea of transforming and building up the leadership cadre in the group and grooming them to be future CEOs. A group of 20 participants were nominated, and taken through a rigorous 8-month programme comprising classroom training, assignments and case studies.
At the end, the participants were asked to present their key learning's to Chairman Krishna Kotak following which the graduation and award ceremony took place. Joint MD Dhruv Kotak shared his views on the importance of becoming a learning organisation, and congratulated the participants for successfully completing the course. The Best Participant award was presented to Captain Vinod Nair, and the Best Execution of Learning to Shirish Shah.
